Who rode their bike to work today?

I did. I plan to do it again tomorrow. 35 miles RT. Did you?
I noticed that cars are more respectful on city street than they are in residential streets. Does anyone else notice this?
There also seems to be this rivalry with Metro buses. They don't seem happy when you pass them. But, to me, the metro buses seemed to be parked most of the time waiting like they are not doing anything, so i have to pass them.
And also, RIDDLE ME THIS - Why is it that soccer moms in their minivans never come to a full stop and never bother to look left to see if any fucking traffic is coming before they turn right into your lane?
Please share.

or when the soccer mom cuts u off 10 feet from the corner with no blinker then hits brakes hard to make a left, WTF!

Typically, the only drivers I tend to have problems with are the above mentioned types and, ironically, people my age that or lower that have that anger-management/inferiority complex that makes them think things slower or smaller should be eliminated.
Better hope I don't run into your ass inside the AMPM, buddy.

That soccer mom situation is exactly how I was hit, except making a left turn without looking left.
I've never had trouble with residential streets though. Maybe because I don't use them that much.

How about this -
I saw about four people today riding bikes the wong way on the wrong side of the street. And on the sidewalk too!
What is up with that? It's fine if I see a kid on the sidewalk. But a grown adult riding into oncoming traffic? How is that going to help us gain respect from non cyclists? -That's my rant.
@Danya, Yeah, I can deal fine with residential streets. But I notice there is a difference in the behavior of cars with cyclists than on a wide business street.

If I live a thousand years, I will never understand why some people think that there's such a thing as "riding the wrong way on the sidewalk."
It's a sidewalk. They're not directional. And your new persona sucks. Bring back Borfo.

Residential streets are some of the most peaceful ones I ride down.
This is usually attributable to the kids playing and the watchful eyes of busy-bodies who will have deputies on someones door if they fuck up in the slightest way.

Already have, but you're not in the desert so you'll never know the full story.
Anywho, you stick to your non-violent path and I'll continue to keep my guard up while riding around up here.
Not to mention you've got the height advantage to stare someone down and hold their head back while they ineffectively try to swing at you.
The rest of us have to rely on fight or flight.

Well, if you've got one then go ahead and use it, so long as you drive decently and don't cause grieve for anyone, it's like you're not on the road at all.
Speaking of which, another, odd road behavior I tend to see are stopped or broken down cars in the path of travel.
Whenever other cars come up behind them, a few will simply go around and continue on their merry way.
Most, however, will actually sit behind impatiently like the vehicle will magically vanish into thin air.

I ride to work every day. Some people write it off because I live a mile from where I work.... But I
chose to live close to where I work, specifically so that I could go home for lunch & commute easily... so them haters can suck my hypothetical dong.

before i lost my job, i used to commute around 40 miles a day. some of it in the some pretty high speed and high traffic areas. what's weird was that i seemed to get more respect from drivers while i biked by myself during the day, compared to biking with group a night.

Most of all the hostilities I've listed on various postings here occurred back in the '05-'06 arena.
Ever since I've decided to don the earphones full-time, I've greatly blocked out all the bullshit and instead, keep an eye out for the bigger dangers.
Yeah, not safe to wear, yadayadayada, cops give tickets, blahblahblah.
I wear them under a helmet and they usually pass for a strap.

I ride to work every day. I love it! My roundtrip is only about 15 miles; I get to ride thru Hollywood, WeHo and Beverly Hills, weeeeeeeeee! I've been going the same route since Feb and the cars honk less now...I think some of them have gotten used to me on the road, and I've gotten a bit faster too. I stopped yelling, since it doesn't feel good anyway, and usually just wave my arms like a crazy wild bird to get their attention and change lanes.

I figure that when I drive there is one more safe driver on the road watching out for bicycles and pedestrians and other cars. Unfortunately I find that people are just assholes, and that when I am driving the speed limit in residential streets, people will tailgate me or pass around me or honk.
It's like CHILL THE FUCK OUT...you'll get to your grave soon enough, don't rush it.

I don't ride far but I ride to work almost every day. perhaps a few times a month I bring the truck to haul in stuff. But I don't have any problems with my commute, been doing it for over 5 years now. I did have a couple of weeks where I was freakd out by traffic be the feeling went away.
When people come to me looking for a bike I try and sell the local area ride to the store etc as the selling point. These short distance runs are where the average cyclists will benift the most.
