SAVE Hollywood Farmers Market

Tomorrow is a public demonstration at City Hall. A first action toward keeping the 19 year old Farmers Market from being kicked out by the L.A. Film School (yes, trust me, I know, it's that sad).
THIS IS OVER PARKING!! LA Film School is claiming the market is interfering with one of the three access points students have for parking. NOTE: THE SCHOOL IS CLOSED ON SUNDAYS!!

What: The Save the Hollywood Farmers Market Coalition will conduct a protest outside Los Angeles City Hall and speak during public comment and on Item #17 on the Council Agenda.
When: 9:00 a.m., Dec. 14, 2010, 200 N. Main St. Los Angeles City Hall. We will have a press conference on the lawn at 10:00 a.m. and will enter city council chamber for public comment and agenda item #17.
Why: We, as the farmers, food producers, artisans, and consumers have been left out of the discussion of the future of the Hollywood Farmers Market. We are compelled to be heard and deserve to have a say on the future of this community jewel. Our opinions matter and we demand a say on this issue that affect us economically and our quality of life.

If you know students that attend, please try to encourage them to speak up, since they are supposedly the reason the school needs parking.

The Hollywood Farmers' Market urgently needs your help now to show City officials that the community wants to save the Hollywood Farmers' Market.
The City has issued a limited 30 day permit to the Hollywood Farmers' Market (valid until Jan. 12) during which time the City anticipates negotiating a resolution. We appreciate greatly your outpouring of support during the recent weeks. On Thursday morning, Dec. 16, Councilman Garcetti (who represents the district in which the market is located) will attend a meeting with SEE-LA, the LA Film School, and other city officials. We believe that it is crucial for the City leaders to hear our community's voices before the meeting.
If you want to support the Hollywood Farmers' Market in its hour of need, we urge you to send an email message or call Councilmember Garcetti -- TODAY, Dec. 15, before the Thursday morning meeting. In your email message or phone call, we ask that you ask respectfully that the Councilman do all he can to assist the market with the following principles in mind:
1) The market not be reduced in size;
2) The safety of the vendors and customers not be
compromised; and
3) That the market remains fully accessible to the community.

What about the rights of private businesses? The School is in fact open on Sunday's and it's tax paying employees and students need access to the site.
I am sure there is a way for the city to accommodate the farmers market without impacting private businesses.
But the people are so set on remaining in the same location. Just move it.

What about what's better for the community?
The school is interested in offering Sunday courses, but they do in fact have access to their parking structure. They just want more.
