** Commute to SMC **

Tomorrow I'm starting a 4 day a week commute to SMC ( Santa Monica College ). I'll be taking Venice Blvd.------> McLaughlin Ave.-----> Gateway ( ocean park)------> 17th St (SMC)..
start Venice/ Arlington
meet : 6:00 am leave 6:15 am
M-Th
if there's anyone that would like to tag along from the start or join in at any point of the route feel free to do so.

I totally would if I had to leave that early..but my class isnt until 12... =/

why dont you turn left at brookhaven from barrington and then a right at armacost and left at ocean park? i dunno, it just seems a little more direct

Also when you are on McLaughlin you can take a right at Woodbine (just past Mar Vista Park), it will curve around and turn into Butler which then hits Brookhaven. It might be .05 miles more riding but it's well worth it.
Woodbine / Butler are buttery smooth residential roads and a hell of a lot safer than that stretch of bumpy narrow shit along McLaughlin.

Pearl can be nice too (1 street N of Ocean Park)
No stoplights = you go faster

when i used to commute, pearl was awesome between mclaughlin and smc.

thank for the heads up in improving my route i'll give all your suggestions a try. today's commute wasn't bad made it to SMC in 35 mins. 11 miles. It gave me enough time to cool down and eat something.

Wow what time does your class start? I have an 8am class tomorrow but I'm not leaving until 6:45. I live at 48th and crenshaw and I can get there in 35-45 minutes. That's pretty much the same way I take except I go national to bundy to pico after mclaughlin. Maybe I'll see you.

I go east on Venice Blvd around the same time....maybe I'll see you....um, but not today cause I woke up late......this reply is pointless.
BTW, if anyone wants to go to DTLA/Union Station from Venice/Lincoln around 6am, lemme know.....I do that 2-3 times per week......

yeah i got to smc hella early today. traffic wasn't bad at that time on McLaughlin 3 cars passed me. so that was good.

SMC, the community college for all the cool people.
No, the noticeable lack of other bicycles and the clusterfuck that encompasses the local college in my area makes me think about your guys' place all the time.
Essentially, the local school isn't that far from my house, but it's the 50-60mph speed-limit and the NASCAR-like, huddle-driving that makes it more than difficult to change into the turning lane.
I'm looking into just huffing it across the train tracks and cutting it through the field.
