Longer Than Rides

I don't know if this has been covered, but I was thinking about this today and a couple of Rollers' comments pushed it over for me.
I would like to start doing some longer rides. Not longer time really, but longer distances. I'm not talking Hustle or Dark Century style. Just a regular MR ride, stops and all, but with a further reaching destination, round-trip. LA to Pasadena, LA to Long Beach, LA to where ever RBI lives...etc.
Obviously these rides would have to be clearly distinguished from the traditional 20 mile MR rides so as to avoid problems of every sort.
I was up in Pasadena this week and man do they need more MR.
So what's it gonna take? Leave earlier? Ride faster? Drink more?
Let's do this. 1st one, MR - the Pasadena ride. Goin' Long?

Just post the ride. If you post it, they will come. I posted a Tuesday stroll yesterday. Even though there were only six of us, that was five more than I thought would show up.
I'm always up for some mileage. Post a route and I'll head out there with you.

You will want to start them earlier, unless you want them to be all-nighters. Not that there's anything wrong with all-nighters.
You might also want to tag them with a "[LONG]" tag, or something, so that newbies don't show up and run out of steam halfway through.

What would be cool, is to work with someone and have a standard ride, but at some point you get together all the people htat want to go to LB or Pasadena and you guys split up, and then the rest of them continue the planned route back to the beginning.

Yeah, I like it. Maybe something in the 40-60 mile length (Metric century?) would allow us to go different places, get a good amount of riding in and not be too sore the next day.
As the weather becomes warmer, I think mid to late afternoon starts would be ideal; that way people can sleep in if they need to, or get errands and stuff done early and the rides could still be completed before it's too late at night.
I think also what would really attract people (and make it Ridazz-like) is to have a theme or destination and a food stop.

Themes could be a part of it, but doesn't need to be. The main thing that this ride should have is that it's always 40-60 miles in length. Establish that, and build from it. Leave the themes to the shorter rides. That is unless Eric has a shit load of themes he plans on doing.

A long ass, expeditionary ride would be the perfect idea for us touring, sight-seeing types.
Perhaps the aim could be to take group shots of 50-500 ridazz in front of various, points of interests at various points in the Basin.
Just another way to let people know that cars aren't necessarily needed to get to certain spots.
One way it could be done is by starting out and going 30 miles in one direction, then finding a completely different route to make it an even 60.
Of course, to keep people from losing steam, or smoking out, hills and speeds should be kept to a moderation.
And lastly, the use of bullhorns and walkie-talkies, cell-phone # exchange, and light-duty cattle wranglers should be utilized to the fullest, extent.

I think beer, people and bikes would suffice.....
Just take your regular MR ride, Sins&Sprockets, etc.... tack on 20 more miles and you've got Extended Play: MR++

Pass the 60.
Left on Main
Left on Alameda

heres a route to get to fuzz's ride/ final project:
gazebo
alameda to main
north on atlantic
right (east) on las tunas
turns into Live oak
turns into arrow hwy
left on bonita.
continue through downtown claremont
left on college
right on tenth
meetup on the left (north)

longer ride sounds good.
i also like bike saturday.
where you kind of ride around all day and all night. real casual.
like whatever happened a few saturdays ago with pier pressure, fixed gear show, los angelopes, tandem ride, etc...

studiodrome, I hear ya. Last summer pier pressure was just gettin started, but it was great. This summer the day/night rides are gonna be beautiful, warm and populated.
