Stolen Purple Deep V

Had my oh so sweet shiny purple rimmed Deep Vs jacked downtown the weekend before last. I've never seen a sight so shameful or sad as a once proud, now crippled bicycle. Don't have high hopes of retrieving them, but if there's anyone who has crazy ideas of springing traps on dirty thieves, I'd be down. Luckily in the meantime I have a lot of leftover beer from a party, so my sorrows are blunted.

One of the saddest sights I've ever seen was my cut cable lock (yeah, when I was young and stupid, I was young and stupid) laying on the concrete at the train station next to an unrecognizable frame missing its wheels, derailers, brakes, cranks, everything that was u-locked to the rack. It just sucks.

...and I agree with him.
I saw a nice track bike locked up on 6th street, in ktown today; it was locked with 2 ulocks.
-One bound the frame and front wheel to the 'imoveable object'.
-The second bound the rear wheel to the seat tube.
Proper. I was happy.

Dont drink to much at least you still have yr bike, wheels you'll get again and this time you'll know better...i cried like a lil bitch , heart broken when i lost my first Pista a few years ago...
lock them wheels , better yet get a Faugitaboutit Chain lock, FTW!!!!!

NO MATTER HOW MUCH WE POST ABOUT THIS, THERE IS ALWAYZ GOING TO BE SOME RIDAZZ THAT JUST DONT GET IT, AND THAT SUCKS, BECAUSE I ALWAYZ THOUGHT THAT ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THIS WEBSITE IS TO HAND OUT CONSTRUCTIVE ADVICE ABOUT THE PROPER WAY TO LOCK UP YOUR BABY.

I remember getting my QR skewers getting jacked from my bike when I was in high school.
After replacing them for the third time, I found out who did it and ended up getting suspended for two months after a little fight broke out in biology.

If your on a budget and can't afford a nice U-Lock, then go to walmart and buy a thick chain (I'm talking motorcycle chain thick...like a kryptonite chain). They're only like 15 bucks. And get a big ass shackle for it (5-10 bucks).
Any lock can be defeated by someone who knows what they are doing. A good lock shackle can cost you 80+ dollars, and will take a pro about 15 mins to pick open. Everything else is easily defeated, but will slow thieves down.
You'll just have to deal with the weight. I'd rather have the weight than no bike. If the chain is not long enough to fit around your waist, then take some parachute cord (camping store, maybe REI) and rig it so you can wrap it around your waist. Or simply throw it in your messenger bag.
And use common sense when you lock your bike up. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. And make sure the object you lock it to can't be pulled out of the ground or easily cut.
Gun locks make a great cheap front wheel lock, but they're just a deterrent. You could get through it with cheap wire cutters...but its better than nothing.

DON'T LEAVE YOUR BIKE UNATTENDED!
I know it sounds impractical but I'm hardly away from my bike for more than 5 minutes, when locked, as little as possible when unlocked.
If I am leaving it locked, I'm close enough to see it. If I have to leave it somewhere, I first: look for another option rather than leaving it, brining it inside for example, or b) lock up with at least two locks (I need another one, both my spare U and my spare cable seem to have vanished) in a well lit, conspicuous place, where if it is locked often someone will probably recognize it, I don't usually carry two locks (my old under the weather belt could carry both my u locks at the same time), but if I know i am going to have to leave it somewhere (work, when I have it, for example) I will definitely carry an extra.
