How do you think your life would be if you never got involved with Midnight RIdazz? How do you think your weekends would be spent?

I'd be back in Toronto by now...
weekends spent in Tim Hortons, pubs, & friends' basement apartments playing video games.

I would have missed out on the best year cycling wise of my life.
Yesterday I rode my 4,000th mile of this year, on track to smash my previous year all time high.
I wouldn't have ridden so much w/o M.R. (and if I had a job).

I wouldn't be nearly as happy as I am. Aside from my marraige, and going to Burning Man, I was in a real pit about things socially.
However, I feel like I was destined to find this because I have always been a bicycle person, and every time in '04 when I saw a critical mass or Ridazz going by, I nearly jumped out of my skin in excitement.

I don't know what I would look at on the internet.
I would have been more vigorous about chasing down other cyclist going in my direction and engage in conversation about bicycle.
(never mind, that never really changed, I always chase down other cyclist and try to engage them in coversation)
I probably wouldn't be soo bummed out right now that I'm a motorist and not a cyclist anymore. It would have been easier for me not to be a cyclist right now.

Let's see. I probably wouldn't have had enough fond memories of LA that I'd want to move back after grad school. So I'd probably have moved to SF, or Portland, or some remote island in the South Pacific, following whatever enviro-job I could find in a reasonably livable place. Of course, "livability" would still be strongly affected by bikeability, but I doubt that biking would be so linked with social activity. Maybe I'd return to some old hobbies, riding my bike around alone at night, taking photos.

before i got into MR, all i ever really did was hang out with my friends at bars or someones house and drink. i would probably still be with my ex gf too.
now i ride around and drink. shit. not much has changed. haha

If I had never met the wonderful Midnight Ridaz my weekends would still be : Sitting around watching the guys play viedo games while i play with the dog.....I like riding with Y'all: good people, good times, and lots of FUN

I'd have fewer friends, probably still be unemployed, still be riding my bike around, probably be a hell of a lot fatter, and probably not be building freak bikes again.

i'd still be living in DC without a bike. i only came here because i met awesome people at choppacabras spring thing 07. four months later, i moved to LA. DC sucked anyway. i spent my weekends in bars (single) with my married/engaged friends and their significant others. god, it was sad. i like you guys much better.

At least that's what I get from reading the paper all the time.
Kinda ironic how drive-by's and carjackings happen in an area with trip-wires and sensors running all over the damn place.

AT THE HOSPITAL THEY ASKED, AND I TOLD THEM I GOT HIT WHILE RIDING MY "BIKE"
THEY LOOKED AT ME STRANGE, AND ASK "MOTOR-CYCLE?"
"NO MY BIKE" I REPLIED
THEN EXPLAINED THAT MY "BIKE" IS NOT A BIKE, IT A MACHINE THAT I BUILT, FAST, WITH A FEW HUNDRED OTHER PEOPLE ON MIDNIGHT RIDAZZ"
THEN THEY 'REALLY' LOOKED AT ME, LAUGHING AT ME, OUT LOAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 'ER' AND THEN SAID "THAT'S WHY YOUR HERE!"
AND GUESS WHAT RIDA? I WAS LAUGHING TO!
BECAUSE BIKE FUN RIDES THAT WE DO BRING HAPPYNESS TO MY LIFE!

What a life-revealing thread this was.
I often wonder if riding all those months on a non-stop basis was a good thing.
I mean, now I'm stuck back in the desert with no one else to ride with and thousands of other people who potentially cringe at the thought of riding a bicycle as a fun thing.
I still ride everywhere, but sadly not as much as I should.
I'll ride to the gym, to work and to school, but not running into other "pumped up" people is having its affect on me.
In short, it's become an addiction that can't really be replaced with anything else.
Even a couple of family members have been hinting that I should buy a car again to up my social-status.
Maybe I should go fishing, or do homework while fishing.
At least I could still ride to the lake.

I probably would still have a job. Just being happy I get to ride to work everyday. Maybe do a Critical Mass ride every now and then, but mostly would just ride in the daytime.
I probably would've eventually joined an early morning club ride to satisfy my desire to ride fast. Never thinking to Hustle™ into the night.
