Yeah, and cars don't take reds either. I'm seriously tired of not respecting reds and stop signs especially in the daytime when everyone can see us as this could put a stigmata in their eyes, further widening the divide between riders and everyone else.
In the massive group rides it's almost necessary to take the reds - for both our sake and drivers' sake. But in smaller groups I would say it's really dangerous.
Taking the reds is really all about how you take the reds. In a lot of cities cops don't enforce traffic codes on pedestrians and cyclists nearly so rigorously....
I think here, if you run a red in a controlled and responsible manner... say, taking a stop and then going when its clear, you can get away with it. But if you outright blow a light you will get pulled over if a cops see you do it.
Ok, thanks for the clarification. Everytime we seem to do it I always hear someone say something along the lines of "respect the laws" or "that's a red you know, it means stop."
