On April 18th, 1775, Paul Revere rode to Lexington, evading capture, to warn the rebels of
CRANK MOB!!!
Two starts:
The Blues aka the Continentals
Venice Skatepark 1531 Ocean Front Walk, Los Angeles
The Reds aka the Redcoats

As always, CRANK MOB is a potluck of FUN. Make sure you bring yours! How can you do that? Bring face paint, balloons, dancing legs, silly string, wear costumes, you name it. Think KINDERGARTEN, and then get more immature!

i laughed at this.. i guess karma got back at me. i was riding home down sepulveda with my friend..... a car pulls up behind me and one rushes and stops in front of me, im thinking to myself "fuuck, its the cops, great! the day i decide to drink i get pulled over". So i get off my bike and then i hear "Ey blood.. blah blah blah homie"... great what a way to end the day... lol i just got to the top of the hill thats next to the bridge imax theatre, in my head im like fuck these fools, so i get on my bike and smash down some hill that led me to the 405, i got on the freeway entrance and the followed me in. i somehow made it to the opposite side and ran across carrying my bike and hid in some bushes for like 20 minutes.. lol
Thank you crank mob and your idea of having me wear blue. I havent been banged on in years.. it was kind of fun though.
Did anyone pick up a navy blue jansport backpack at rancho park that was not theirs??
If so, my friend would greatly appreciate it if you could arrange its return.
Someone riding with the red team shot off fire crackers. For a second I thought "Uh Oh".
Damn this ride was not your usual CRANK MOB. Long riding, no liquor or store stops. When the cops came on the scene, we split up into three or four groups rode around for 20 minutes then re-grouped at the meet spots. Such fun should be illegal....oh wait.
Yeah, it felt really different. Kinda fun, but I wish it was slower. I <3 fireworks, they are magical. But folks should be more careful where they light them.
Breaking into groups worked out really well, I think we're getting better at organizing 500+ ppl. As long as we figure out a way for the slow group to eventually (and safely) meet up w/ the faster ones, then this may work out after all.
Any reports on why that cop started harassing the group headed West on Pico after we left Cheviot Hills? He was constantly trying to cut into our lane, then he blocked the intersection up ahead, then double backed to chase us into the alleyway. That bastard is the reason why I busted the soundsystem, I turned too fast... I was the last one left, and as I was straightening it out, he said something sarcastic and then sped off towards the rest of the riders.

It was like a whole new ride. I lost my friends and as I rode around trying to find them, every street I turned on had bicyclists. It was like a the whole world was bicycles.
fastmob sounds sick. i wish i could have made it! it's about the riding not the drinking when it comes down to it (not that i'm against the drinking part), but riding and have such silly awesome fun is the best. if you want liquor go to a bar with the rest of the norms. we are the midnight RIDAZZ! we ride bikes and party like it's 1999. spread the ride! :)
I'm thinking this might've been the same cop that was kicking everyone out of the Cheviot Hills place.
Apparently, this guy took his pointless aggression too far and decided to act out of seemingly, pure-animosity towards a bunch of nothing.
Luckily, no one got taken in by Officer. Trip Powers, so it was a clean night as far as arrests went.
I thought we did a lot of riding, were you in the Red group too? Maybe Blues did less?
I am happy that the groups met up prematurely before Best Buy, Blue group had a band on the roof AND the music trailer. Reds had very little for dance-worthy music systems. Hopefully if the next ride uses two start points (I hope so) then I hope the music is universally observed between the two groups :)
Limeyfly- is that your music trailer or does it belong to someone else? ;) hint hint
Definitely loved how there was no stealing. Don't even give them a chance! No liquor stops FTFW. One of the best parts is when you do buy liquor there is hardly ever a line!
+1 No Liquor Stops
+1 Multiple Rides w/ Rendezvous
+1 More Riding
With a group that size (~300 strong per group or more) I think that format has a lot of potential. Keep the riffraff from stealing and getting tooooo drunk, splitting the group up to make more stops available because group numbers are halved, and taking advantage of both together by being able to ride your bike a bit more.
Crank mob did seem a bit different though. There was less party time energy- but then again Richie was out of town! I missed you Richie!
That system actually belongs to BigBikeDan, Harry just hauls it under orders from him.
As for music systems, I assumed someone had at least a rack-mounted system for the reds.
Eh, next time we'll just have to see about getting designator-requests for the numerous systems that comprises the "Signal Corps".
I took pics of wifebike effing me in the a. then she ate my dead body. It happened I have pics.on my camera. which I cannot find. right now.
Besides that,
Guise... this was a TOTALLY different CRANK for me. I got to be a C.R.A.N.K. MOM... or C.R.A.N.K. MAMA if you prefer. I didn't go to the the last two, I was attending my own private cranky mob.
I really liked the experience I had hanging back "sweeping". I met lots of BRAND NEW riders. Like people who got their bikes THAT DAY!
I can't expect to ever have the old C.R.A.N.K. MOB that I liked best, because it doesn't exist anymore. The new ridazz who have no idea how it used to be can be just as enamored w/ C.R.A.N.K MOB,and get a dose of the positive, helpful, awesome Ridazz ethos. I guess I forget sometimes, but babies can't take care of babies! we gotta help em!
Sorry if you are new and reading this, I don't want to seem condescending. I mean babies in a really good way <3
Now...off to my Calgon bubble bath.
wow. it didn't happen. the one CRANK Mob i had to miss and it didn't happen. (smiling) that's kinda neat.. i think i will continue to tell myself that. it's a nice little world, denial is.
I agree that this was a totally different C.R.A.N.K. MOB experience than I've ever had before.
Like mixtemotions says; there were a lot of brand new riders out and those of us who have been going on these rides for a while found ourselves in leadership roles whether we volunteered to help out or not. I even saw some people that I would have considered to be relatively new to the scene shepherding groups of lost noobs and teaching them basic safety skills.
C.R.A.N.K. MOB was my first social ride and the calamity of it was so stimulating and thrilling that I never looked back after that first jaunt into the world of MR.
I can't explain it, but it was really cool for the most tumultuous of rides to suddenly feel a bit more like a community bonded by madness than a crowd of madmen convulsing in each other's presence.
I still drank beer with teenagers at this crank mob and was strangely glad to see the tradition persevere. What was different was that I didn't feel like any of them were about to go too far and hurt themselves.
I also had to call out a few people for riding recklessly and endangering the group as usual but, unlike most times in the past, they listened without retaliatory sarcasm.
It seemed like the constituents of the mob gave their egos a break last saturday night. It was still a felini-inspired mass of writhing bodies on bicycles, occasionally pulling off the road for a wild dance party complete with silly string and sidewalk chalk. Everyone just behaved a little more accountably and that was a nice change of pace as far as I'm concerned.
The social change of pace corresponded with a literal one that I considered a very special treat to behold at a C.R.A.N.K. MOB: a hard-hustling front pack streaking through the streets ahead of the main mob screaming, "The British are coming! The British are coming!" They rode very fast in very close proximity to one another without anyone posing a threat to the rest of them or trying to hijack the ride. Nice.
