I thought this might be useful for everyone dealing with whack tickets from the cops. Here is the story of my half a year long saga of getting my $123 back for an unjust moving violation for riding too far to the left, when I was in fact making a left turn. Blog link below:

In a case as clear cut as yours I would prefer to be in court with the police officer and have the judge tell him he was wrong.

Though you do take the chance that the judge doesn't understand the law either if you do that.

Yeah I was tipped off to the spelling error soon after I posted this and fixed it on the post, but thanks for catching.

Personally I did not want to go to court unless I had too, I have a very busy schedule and did not want to be making a special trip to cycle out to the court house. The letter I could do on my own time and I viewed the whole thing as a waste of my time to begin with, but I wasn't about to just pay it off and be done with it when I knew it was a load of crap.

yeah, i'm debating the trial by declaration thing. if i have time, i'll throw it in that asshole's face. the thing that bothers me is that i dropped off some literature for the officer, and he amended (in error) his citation in error. it went from a simple open-and-shut case to a slightly more complicated one.

What do you mean by gave the officer some literature? We should want a better educated police force, but it's not our job to educate them particularly when defending your self from a citation. And I wasn't aware a citation could be amended after the fact.
