WNDSRS Presents - Tour De Valle
Sunday July 26 2009
We will be meeting at North Hollywood Metro Station @ 9am, Roll out at 930 sharp.
Come join us for a 73 mile loop around the valley. We'll have a few stops along the way. Please bring a helmet, plenty water, spare tubes, or anything else you think you might need. If you have any questions feel free to email me or post on the thread.

You beat me to the bus again! U should ride it's at 8am so should be under 80 for a hour or more. Hell after it hits 90 I'm out! i'm not down with heat stroke gambling.

why not at night? valley weather is perfect for longer excursions without the sun beating down on you. its gonna be at least 7 hours in the sun, and you're going to be in the hottest spot in la during peak heat hours. good luck trying to climb a hill in the heat.
i'd be completely down for something that starts like 9pm and ends later in the morning, but valley heat is just not friendly. too much sunscreen, toooooo much water. there's a reason caturday starts so early and finishes as early as possible. and we stay out of the valley heat. shit is not easy folks.

I think I will do a 35mi this Thursday to warm up for Sunday. Or maybe on Friday. 35mi with lots of climbing. If you would like to accompany me, you are more than welcome to.

start time is good. its gonna determine whose serious or not. were also looking at temps in the 90+ in noho. i cant even imagine what its gonna be like once we hit chatsworth.

Crap dude, I'm so pissed. I got the callsheet for tomorrow's shoot and it's 6:30 am in friggin' Palmdale...so there's no way I'm gonna be able to do the ride anymore. That sucks beardicks! Any chance of another one happening before the end of summer?

Yaaah, there were perhaps some things that could have been better, but overall, the ride was good and I feel pretty damn accomplished.

all in all it was a great ride. sorry to those who either dropped or got lost. this was a first undertaking for most but should definitely not be your last. next time, there "will" be route slips. Ipromise.
we started out with about 15 or 20 peeople and it was a hell of a start. through burbank, glendale, up and over to tojunga and back in to the valley via sylmar sunvalley and sanfernando.I think foothill really kicked the hell out of all of us. the heat was a factor the whole way. a century is a huge undertatink under the best conditions but add to it the heat factor and it becomes an issue of time. we were not out to be in the heat for too long so we had to get it done as soon as possible without straining ouselves to the point we would not be able to finish. in the process we lost some people but that's just for lack of preparation. you don't just wake up one morning and decide to ride 100 miles without ever having worked up to it.
toward mile 85 we headed back across studio city, toluca lake, and forrest lawn directly into griffith then back down the river path. it felt great to be in the home stretch. I think it was my favorite part of the ride cust by then it was 5 of us. Doug "the iron man destroyer", Mattspeed, charlie, liz a.k.a. happyland,and yours truly. made it to the finish to a celebratory tall can in noho park at around 2:30 or 3. props to everyone tham made it. to those that didnt , don't let it discourage you. if anything let it be a goal or a challenge.
oh yeah we spotted craig(dedicated818) cruising by topanga and mulholland.

I biked through there on my way to sta barbara a few weeks back it wasn't bad. it was actually cooler than yesterday inn sfv. however were not talking about anytime soon. just a thought. I loved the ride up there its a hell of a challenge from santa paula.

yup it is. its about the toughest stretch only cus its loooong. about the only inspiration was looking at all the faded paint and markers on the road directing cyclists in the oposite direction. my inspiration this time would be to get to jersey mikes... mmmmmmm

if you ate at the jersey mikes in downtown ojai then i feel bad for you, son. way better places to eat in a small town than some shoddy chain.
the faded paint on hwy 150 by lake casitas on the way out to carpinteria is more inspiring, anyway. did you pass that part?

yeah it was pretty awesome. better yet was the last climb through el toro cyn into saint B. shortly after i started to cramp but i pushed through it. hey when the Ojai loop happens we could use a tour guide make it even more interesting.
