Police escort LACM

Would anyone happen to know how much it costs LACM's police escort costs annually if not monthly or where I can find that information.
Thank you very much

After inquiring about it recently myself, I was told it should be available through the Freedom of Information Act.
at the first stop in August I counted 40 bicycle officers, 22 motorcycle officers, 1 helicopter, and unknown amount of police cars usually with 2 officers per vehicle.
My best guess is $20k+ per month...It's probably a lot higher....
Sargent Krumer? Can you help Miss Tarmonster with any of this info? I'm sure it's readily available to you...

The average officer makes about $40 an hour not including benefits. If you figure that we spend about 4 hours on the ride that's about $160 per officer multiplied by 80 officers that's about $12,800. This does not include gas, equipment or the costs of a helicopter if used.
Hope that helps...again these are estimates and you can do your own math based on your observations as to how many officers attend and for how long.

I think this was covered on another thread. I don't remember which one otherwise I'd link it up but it was something astronomical.

So in a year it would come out to 153,600 ... Give or take. How about spending all that cash on some new bike lanes.

Is it straight or overtime? I'm assuming overtime since it's only a 4 hour shift as you put it...pre ride meetings and travel time to and from the actual ride would make it a 6 hour shift...what is the approximate expenditure of the helicopter?

I agree... & so do a lot of other people, specially tax payers... please support the Peoples Ridde which will follow the next LACM & will roll out at 11pm. The ride will be posted soon. A few of us are tired of seeing this waste of city resources & have asked the officers in charge of the escort to revert to the old ways of LACM where the ride ended by 10-10:30pm. Unlike LACM, the Peoples Ride will not be inviting LAPD to ride with us, it will be solely for the people & lead by the people (not LAPD)!

hey Sgt,
How's this
case coming along? Any chance of seeing an accident report this year? How do you think the officers handled this? Par for the course?

Hi barleye...straight time. There is no overtime due to budget. Officers do other enforcement for remainder of shift. Heicopter is pretty expensive but I do not know the numbers...sorry

Hi Dark Energy,
The city attorney did not file against the driver or the cyclist if I recall correctly. You can get a redacted copy of the report if you file a freedom of information act request or have a party to the incident order a copy.
My opinion is that all parties to this incident could have done things differently.

The cyclists and the occupants in the motor vehicle engaged in a heated verbal exchange that culminated in:
1) One of the cyclists reaching into the hummer, grabbing a female occupant, and attempting to pull her out (I have seen the photos of marks on the female's arms consistent with being grabbed)
2) One cyclist throwing his bike at the hummer causing damage to the side mirror
3) the driver of the hummer driving over three bicycles that were in front of him
4) Threats of bodily harm from both sides
5) the officers should have acted differently as well...while I agree with the officers conclusion that an arrest was inappropriate given the facts and that multiple reports were in order, it appears he was insensitive at the scene (based on what I was told). If that's the case he should have modified his demeanor. I Think that a field sobriety test would have been in order as well.
All of these things could have been avoided if cooler heads prevailed and everyone was not so quick to take offense.

I was the cyclist involved in the hummer vs cyclist "accident" and it was the worst experience of my life. Not only did the case finally settle a couple months ago with the insurance company. The morning after the hit an run, officer cho called me and pretty much said it was my fault and that was that. For being an lapd officer and saying what he said it was a big discouragement. But in the end now I know not to answer officer chos phone call. and i never got a copy of the police report like the laPd said they we were going to give me a looooong time ago.

It feels like no ones giving a shit about this case. Last rumor I heard, from one of the victims, was that the offender fled the country. The police can't even find her. Sgt. Krumer said he would look into it (earlier in this very thread) and I have yet to hear back. These are our friends and family we ride with. I see them all the time on a lot of rides and I'd hate to imagine what it must be like with bills hovering over your head, lives being put on hold (because we all know LIFE will wait for you), and knowing that the city you give so much to isn't really concerned with yours, or any citizen for that matters, well being.

Each individual should contact her insurance company if they haven't already done so and file a claim with them. It doesn't have to hinge on the fact that there were no charges against her. A lawsuit will get the ball rolling....depositions, etc..if she's a no show, i don't know this 100% but the cyclists may win by default if she never responds. Only problem is if she had minimal insurance, they'll cover $30k only..beyond that they would need to collect outside of the court system iif a judgement was made against her by a court.
