I've never been on this ride, and it sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to go, but I don't want to be hanging out solo, and too worried about DUI at the end of the ride to sip a damned margarita.
Who's going on this, and how are you getting there and back? Bike? Bus? Train? Shuttle?
Is anyone planning to bike over the border and back again?
I'd love to hear people's plans.

I've done it 3 times so far and each time what I've done is car polled with a couple friends and stayed at a hotel in ensenada friday night and saturday night. that way I'm relaxed for the ride and able to relax afterwards at the finish... there's a shuttle that takes you up in the morning from ensenada for $20 or you can get a ride from a taxi for $10. beware one time I was doing the taxi thing and the bike rack broke from the weight of 6 bikes. so find a taxi with a roof rack and make sure it's solid.
this year I think the plan is going to be to stay in SD at a friend's pad friday nightand take a charter bus to rosarito day of the ride. then take it back once the ride is over. I love Ensenada but I'm over strip clubs, bars and spending lots of money so there's not much reason for me to stay overnight.

they gve DUI's in Mexico? I've never seen that...but you'd have to be pretty intoxicated and not so bright to get one of those...
they don't let you drink and ride anymore, although I'm sure some people still do, but there used to be a day when people just had beer bottles while they rode along...that's a no no now...
the other way you could do it, is get some friends who just want to watch/party, and they can drive the one direction and pick you up at the end or drop you off at the start or vice versa...depending on where you want to stay overnight (Rosarito or Ensenada)...and there are shuttles, but your bikes will be put on a giant hauling cart...so if you have a nice bike, don't go that route...
or you could do a century, and go backwards...but I wouldn't recommend that, it's really easier to go the one way, since it's all blocked off for the cyclists...and then you can party at the end...fish tacos, yum!
I only saw two single speeds this past September...me and a beach cruiser...there are a couple of longish hills on the ride, so I don't recommend a super high gear inch single speed...unless you like the thigh burn...

this ride is a blast. it's narly at times with the hill climbs but man.... I did it 3 years on my crappy (yet trusty) mountain bike and now that I finally got me a roadbike I can't wait for this year. I guarantee to shave 45 mins off my time. unless I get hung up drinkin or something... lol.

I've done this ride three times. In 1990, 1994 and 2003. The first time we got way early pre-dawn starts and drove all the way down to Rosarito, did the ride, got blasted in Ensenada and shuttled back up to Rosarito and drove back across the border and home. Long Day. The second time, we did the same drive down to Rosarito but we had non-riders accompanying us so they met us with the car in Ensenada where we got blasted and then drove back to L.A. Another long day but better.
Because of post- 9/11 border crossing concerns, when I did it in 2003 we drove down from L.A. to San Diego and did the bus across into Mexico and down to the start line. At the end of the ride we got blasted in Ensenada and then boarded a bus back. Factor in how we all had to disembark and get in line and get queried by customs officials and have our packs scanned and it was the longest of long days.
The real important trick is to get as close to the start line and as far to the front of the massive pack as possible. This will mitigate the extreme yahoo factor prevalent and allow for a much safer and more enjoyable ride.

I'm going to stay in ensenada and take a shuttle the day of the ride up to rosarito who else going?
this will be my 4rth year in a row..... so far I have yet to do it on a road bike. I'm STOKED I bet I shave at least a half hour off my last time.

I AM GOING, and splitting an ill BEACH HOUSE with 9 others for $25 a night! Its full but it had a (possibly available) neighboring house that would be tight for 10 RIDAZZ to get into, I could find out- if anyone HERE is interested..

I am leaving from echo park with some friends tomorrow. we are bike camping our way down to the border. on friday we plan to ride from the border to rosarito (we are staying there fri/sat night).
If anyone would like to join up with us to ride south of the boarder that would be great. The more of us trudging through tijuana together the better.
Maybe we could meet at the border at 11am friday? does that work for anyone? if anyone wants to join us bike camping too, we are camping in san clemete wednesday night. san diego thursday night.

Anybody interested in meeting. I don't plan to "wolfpack it" though. So dont count on me to keep a fast pace with you guys. If anybody has an Idea of where to meet at the beginning on Sat, please let me know.

Oh and skid, I reccomend staying in Rosarito. Make sure you bring money for bus fare back from Ensenada. The logistics of staying in Ensenada to make it to the start in Rosarito is really tough. It's possible though. Good Luck. Have Fun. Bring a bag of candy to toss to the kids!

the places are booked, i am with 8 in abeach house 15 mi away from the start.
I heard the ride is like 20,000 people. How do you Ridazz want to meet?

Thanks for tip. I think I am gonna end up staying at the Rosarito Beach Hotel. I am down to meet up with Ridazz as well, but I to have no idea where we could meet 'cause I have never done it. Do cell phones work down there?

Mostly no reception. Depends on what cellphones plan you have. There's always the stage where the announcer speaks at the starting line. Meeting there however, might be difficult because of the crowds. I just don't know any other location. Maybe someone else has a better idea?

2 suggestions for a meeting place for you guys
1 - instead of the actual stage with the microphones/etc...meet up at the number pick up/registration/late registration area...there is ample space to hang out there...and it's very close to the stage
2 - meet up at a taco place called Macho Taco...it's on the NORTH bound side of the street and it's about 2 blocks NORTH of the southbound start line... there will not be a pack of cyclists there, except those trying to get an early bite to eat...but at least you won't be trying to find each other amidst the other thousands of riders!

I have a room booked at the Royal House Hotel in Ensenada for Friday and Saturday night.
I plan on drving down from West LA 2:00 PM Friday, taking the shuttle up to Rosarito early Saturday morning, and spending the rest of Saturday drinking heavily.

ahhhh shit. man, this was my first year riding a roadbike.... 2hrs 52 mins. my personal best. I shaved a little less than an hour from my previous time when I rode my mtn bike.. I heard the best time on the course was 1hr 50 mins this year. wow. insane! I wasnt even that tired after... I have Wolfpack to thank for that. I want to know how Cole did.. I got WINDED near the front third of the route and a bunch of the faster people passed me up. I was catching wheels with some of the spandex riders. I appreciated the teamwork. I was also pulling my shares of them. lol. I had my sherpa backpack and camos on and some dude took over on pulling saying "you make a great shield" ha.
I saw BORFO's rabbit ears! hahaha I was calling your name dude. yelling it! I didnt see Cole either though I assume he got to the finsh way ahead of me. sorry bro i didnt have cell service for some reason in mexico. I didnt get your message till a lil while ago unfortunately. how was it!?
At the end about 30 secs after I got off my bike at the finish line I was chatting with the powerade girls and my tire exploded. sheesh. glad it didnt happen on the downhill. I got a round of applause for it thanks!
I wasnt shy about yelling out "passing on the left on the left on the lefft!" im sure our impromtu group came off as assholes. fuck it. if your slow move to the right yarr.

I saw Borfo's Rabbit Ears at Registration, and few of us hung out fairly close to the start line.
I finished in 3:05. I should really start Wolfpacking, but Monday evenings across town just don't work for me.
There were a lot of people just riding on the left hand shoulder when there was plenty of space to the right.
That "Big Hill" everyone goes on about wasn't so bad. It was all of those damn false summits that got me. I was tearing up hill after hill thinking I was going to have a down hill ride, only to find another uphill around the bend.
I fell in line with a group on the last leg to Ensenada and we flew into finish. Should have hooked up with a group earlier in the ride.
I looked for Borfo's rabbit ears after the ride, but never did see them.
I drank 6 or 7 beers at the party after the ride. Went back to the hotel for a siesta, and went out again at night. Last thing I remember is doing shots of Tequila when the bars closed at 2:00 AM.

Sorry I didn't get to see you all. It was great to hang out with Billy and, damn, I forgot the other guy's name.. Good times, though. Yes that was me with the bunny ears. I didnt get a very good time. I kind of took my time on this race. Could also be that my bike needs some attention as well. As soon as I got Ensenada my wife wanted to grub down so we took off pretty quickly. I hope you guys had fun, I sure did. I plan to do this again in september, with a liitle bit more wind resistant costume design... :P

my first time doing this ride. even though i had to wade along with walking cyclists the 1st five or 10 minutes till it thinned out a bit, i still came in at 2:34. thats with out the racks and panniers on my long haul trucker. I left all the gear in rosarito. it was a fun ride, i think i saw roadblock and some other ridazz at the start. i am definitely going south again in 6 months, although im not sure about riding the the free road with a full load through Tijuana in the rain again. but i am sure about getting in the elite corral, maybe i could shave another 10 minutes off that time.

Hey Roadblock, actually Cole and I and the rest of our crew were on the other plan: drink like hell! We got passed by the Sag Wagon at least twice. So you probably beat us by 3 or 4 hours. Booyah!

hahah you fuckers!! I thought for sure wise and cole were up ahead I was trying desperately to catch up lol. hey it says on the site that they are gonna list the sub 3 hour times? dope! yeah I had to wade through a bunch of people too lol. I only stopped once for about 5 mins and a second time for about 1 min. I'm waaay down for this again in september.

The only thing I really didn't like about this trip was trying to get back to the US on Sunday. It took me 3 freaking hours to get through Tijuana and into the US.
I've half a mind to stay in San Diego next time, so that I'm crossing the border early Saturday night while everyone else is still coming over to party.
Oh - the outrageously priced hotel rooms in Ensenada were a bit painful as well. But damn - Ensenada was fun!

Haha! Yeah it was a ton of fun! The only way to catch us was to pull over and crack open a brew and wait! Whether you're up front crankin or in back drinkin, it's a rad event. It's just as well we were on the booze patrol, because cole's bike kept falling apart.
That's a pretty hot time Roadblock. We should run a wolfpack paceline next time and beat some ass!

We actually stayed in San Diego. I have a good friend who put us up, we took the trolley to the border in the morning, cabbed it to Rosarito, and then took local Mexican transport back to TJ after the ride.
The bus ride from Esenada to TJ was fucking hilarious. The driver took the nine of us, with our bikes, for $135. We were all completely loaded, packed in with a tangle of bikes, acting the fools. To top it off the bus was the classic "short bus", which was perfect because we had pretty much drank ourselves retarded.

I stayed at a flea bag dump in Rosarito. It was cheap, but my wife will never let me forget about the experience.. no windows.. pretty narly..
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But after the Ride, Beer and Lobster it was all good.

Ride was awesome. It was my first time. I took my time riding, stopping at every chance to drink a beer or three. I think I rolled into Ensenada some 4 hours or so later. The hill was nowhere near as gnarly as I expected. The downhill was harder for me cause I was fucking freezing cold and the wind was kicking my ass. I had a great time on the ride, but the tacos and beer after the ride were almost better.

HOW the hell i ended up with CityHobgoblin helping with my flat at a bar where my buddies were chilling, remains as much a mystery as how God washed out our entire route the night with some good rain. CityH and Cole-I couldnt keep up on the downhills, good to meet you guys and def will see you guys around..
I think I'd be down (able) to roll with Wolfpack in this ride come September. Maybe a Cub Group too.
I saw lots of Ridazz and Rida-affiliates, way to represent! If I didnt see you this time, look up to the top of Hellhill next September!
