Thefts at the final Casa Party
Thread started by FuzzBeast at 10.28.12 - 7:01 pm

So there was some serious theft near the end of the party last night. So, nothing is quite clear yet as to the extent, but as far as I know the extent of last night's thievery was 7 bikes and my equipment.

7 bikes- not sure of when or how rapidly these disappeared, I first heard of missing bikes when I was awakened to find my stuff missing as well.

My VJ equipment aside from my projector- My silver Macbook with an angelopes sticker across the back of the screen, my android tablet, and my phone.

Google latitude's last reported location for my phone was the Casa at 04:25 (If you're not moving it only reports once an hour). I know I was mixing for a few minutes after that, then passed out on my equipment.

My equipment was stolen out from under me, for real. I was asleep on it when the thief managed to unplug all of it, slide it out from under me and take off with it. I was ON TOP of my equipment, which was still running, whoever did this had to physically move me to get to it. If anyone saw anything, please let me know.

--
My keys are also missing, If I lent them to you last night to operate the gate and you still have them please return them to me.

if there are photos of the bikes that got taken.. post em.. THAT THEIF HAS GOT A LOT OF NERVE.

My green bike was one of the stolen ones. Green kilo tt w/ front basket held on with shoelace, scratched to shit white deep v's, covered in stickers, scrapes, and other hilarious bullshit. I have a feeling it will turn up somewhere!

Honestly I feel lucky that for me it was just my bike that got stolen. Funny, too... all the spokes are extremely loose.. :D Have fun with that, jerkface who stole it!

I was almost too drunk to remember to grab my laptop before heading home. WHEW. One more shot of moonshine and I think it would have slipped my mind to watch out for it.

By the way, it was still an awesome party and I had a great time. And I'm sorry if you got a cock shot while I was riding around on the sidehack. MY BAD!

Recovered Sara's bike, Fuzz's equipment and some phones. These thieves are apparently friends of friends. Saw another bike that was disputed as to whether it was stolen so i left it. If anyone recognizes that bike and wants to claim it the person who held on to it is not hard to track down.

Since the goods that were stolen are valued at more than $1000 i believe this is a pretty serious crime. Perhaps that is leverage enough to get the other bikes back.

What a shame that it took such a serious action to get the Angelopes to realize that people don't like to have their possessions get fucked with. They had to learn the hard way instead of just being cool about it and leaving everyone alone. Hopefully this means they will think about how they feel right now before messing with another humans bike like they have done in the past.

How does it feel? Nobody likes to have their things messed with, most especially things like bikes, in our community.

I am happy that you guys got (most of ?) your stuff back, but I can't say I didn't see this coming... eventually, in one form or another.

I hate that this happened to people I know and care about, but it's kinda hard to stand behind a group that messes with other rider's bikes, recklessly spray paints anything and everything they feel like, and fuck with other groups' bike club patches.

There are some nice people in that club, and some real stand-up solid gentlemen/ladies. The reputation you have garnered, however, has caused some people not to want to even stand in the same corner of the parking lot as you on rides. The trouble makers cause guilt by association and general mistrust.

I would like to state that I hope that this never happens again to you or anyone anywhere. This is a perfect lesson as to why you should lock your bike EVEN WHEN IN STORAGE. A simple cheap chain or low security cable lock can do a ton to prevent "snatch-n-grab" thieves.

I really hope a lesson was learned from all of this, but alas.... I have my doubts.

dude. this had NOTHING to do with retaliation. This was a ROBBERY. A girls purse was stolen, $3000 of electronic gear was stolen and 7 bikes were stolen. This is a SERIOUS crime not equatable to a drunken out of control rida getting his bike disabled.

The THIEVES need to return EVERYTHING. If they were smart they wiped the equipment of their prints cause the laptop, tablet and 4 phones are now in zip lock bags ready for the LAPD.

kick em while theyre down hurry!

if putting a sticker on someones bike or spray painting a cone at choppercabres is enough reason for you to think its ok to have another club members bike, laptop or phone stolen then you are seriously fucked up. (and by the way, the majority of things stolen were not from our 'friends' so i guess you just like it when people have shitty things happen to them and have an opportunity to play troll for an afternoon)

also the 'fucking with bikes' thing that I think you witnessed was done by a touring cyclist who happened to be crashing at the casa and the individual whose bike was disabled was harassing multiple women that night;

so as far as I'm concerned, Christopher Barnes supports bike thieves and sexual predators and its ok if no one ever wants have sex with him again or see him on rides, because then youll just think "hey, thats that guy that likes it when peoples get their bike stolen and supports creepers who make my lady friends feel uncomfortable" and who would want to hang out in a parking lot with a guy like that?

I'll tag on your bike (you can't blame the Angelopes for that one!!!) then, maybe, a week later, your bike will get stolen. Then, you can tell me what the difference between the two felt like.

I wouldn't be the one who steals your bike because I'd never do something like that, but, you know, I feel like you have it coming to you.

also don't want to have to worry about them spraying fix a flat on my driveway gate mechanisms. Next time, maybe there will be an array of video cameras & LRAD's popping out over the roof to disable em right in their tracks. Man, this weekend was fucked up.. surprisingly no regrets, though... its a group of hipster fixie fags from the valley who regularly ride Monday Night Rehab, have stolen things from other ridazz and Aglago.

If youre reading this and are friends with these people please inform them that-

Los Angelopes don't talk to the police.

They do however talk to the people who's stuff was stolen, and some have friends/brothers/cousins/boyfriends who are very interested in the full names/home address and phone numbers of the guy and girl who stole the bikes- and yeah that girl stole sara bond's bike and had a guilt trip about it the morning after and gave it back, she's not a 'good samaritan,' she's guilty by association.

I don't care how you do it, contact an intermediary like Roadblock, but if the remaining bikes and possessions aren't returned in the next 48 hours this information WILL be posted here, on LAfixed, craigslist, Reddit, 4chan and anywhere else people who might want to 'do something' about getting their bikes back might appreciate learning where a bunch of thieving pieces of shit live.

Is it 100% confirmed this is the person who stole from Ag Lago?

I don’t understand why the identities of the thieves are being kept a secret and why withholding their information from the public is being used as blackmail? If they stole from you and you know who did it, file a police report. Making their identities known to the community will help us be more vigilant of our possessions and of others when these individuals and their friends attend rides. You can bet that they have stolen from riders in the past and will do so again once the smoke clears. What about the other victims who also had their possessions stolen that night and have yet to be returned? Why withhold information that could possibly aid in the safe return of their belongings?

U can never be too careful on these rides.

Hopefully this stuff gets back to the victims here. Also if the alleged thieves' info is posted publicly I sure hope it is accurate and belongs to the actual criminals in question.

Damn shame for all involved, I cant imagine these thefts were worth it to these hoodlums.

Pretty fucked up shit here. I was in attendance that night and luckily didn't get anything stolen. Personally, I would like to know who these asshats are and what they look like. Names would be nice, but probably won't help me much. Knowing who to ban/shame/uninvite/etc from any and all events would be good.

Los Angelopes
Have shown an incredible amount of generosity to the community over the years.
Not to mention just the other cyclists who have been victimized.

I applaud every that is working within the community to get people's things rightly returned.

If you steal from your peers, you fucking suck. Fuck you.

:-)

thumbs up to RB for the recovery efforts.
Ride on.

I dont like to put out info until the gavel has dropped... too much he said she said leads to public lynchings that may or may not be accurate. If it were my shit I would just have the LAPD finger print the shit and build a case. as I understand it this was a felony level robbery. people stole a purse and used credit cards. this is beyond just taking a bike.

It's because FUCK THE POLICE. We police ourselves. But if the shit doesn't come back, some sort of public shaming should commence. Pigs don't do shit unless you're rich or some public figure. Got that, NO NARCS - Fuck that.

I think you’re missing the point… it’s not about fuck the police, they dont do shit for me, somebody narc’d me out, swat came into my house, disrespected my whole family, blah blah blah… its clear that It’s about returning everything that was stolen, holding those accountable and most importantly, that it doesn’t happen again.
I agree with you though, we should police ourselves… So…. hopefully everyone gets their things back soon so we can finally find out who the thieves are? And we can police ourselves…

Nobody ask me and I don't think anybody cares what I have to say. Since we are stinking up the board with farts, here is mine...... I think the results would be more positive for the whole of society in stopping these kids from stealing in the future if they where outed and shamed. Getting up in a kids grill, (in a kind, loving yet confronting way) letting there family and neighbors know what they did and how the experience was for their victims to shame them is much more effective, personal, and less expensive then getting the courts and police involved.

meh.. self policing requires a lot of work and you actually have to be willing to get down and crack skulls cause guess what, it isnt always some kid you can drag by the ear back to mommy... This crime was brazen - think about it - these characters cased the place, chummed it up with people all night, then literally methodically robbed the casa and several Angelopes like sitting ducks. a girl's fucking purse was stolen and credit cards used... bikes filed out of there systematically.... I would save the trouble and just go to the police get the evidence and be done with it but that's just me I'm not into fucking around with vigilante shit much these days.

I don't think anyone is talking about vigilante shit, just watching out for each other in whatever way we can and leaving the cops out of it. I'm for outing these fucks, but I'm also for giving them a chance at redemption. I think the shame is already setting in, and of course some of them won't "get it" ever. But some will, would and many do. It's in the communities best interest in general, that everyone knows who they are. I wouldn't go as far as posting the faces and names on the internet, but I'l like to see who they are myself so I can tell them to go away.

As you said earlier. It is up to the victims to decide how they will handle this. I'm just putting my take on this out in the interwebz to give people a different perspective of how to handle a situation when it happens to them or around them. I wouldn't never suggest cracking skulls unless you had your back against the wall with nowhere to run and someone was about to crack yours. Yes these people might be some tough characters. Just remember what all people are, they are human beings. They are good. We all have bad traits and do things that many won't agree with, yet most all of us are empathetic to something, love someone, have people who love us. Most of us know the difference between right and wrong. Most of us will respond to people who are important to us. I say this from experience that when you take time to recognize someone, look them in the eye and hold them accountable to the actions they have put forth, it makes people realize that what they do have an actual impact and the surrounding around them.

I don't know how this happen? If these people actually cased the place or just saw it as an opportunity? What the age of the people are? I would assume from the crowd and the brazenness of the crime that night that they are young. When someone is young they are usually more willing to accept something you have to offer to them as long as you are not coming at them in a threatening way, actually most people are responsive when you are serious and heart felt with them. Especially if that person is addressing them was harmed by them and they are letting the other person know that you harmed them. It holds people accountable. I think the term for it is "restorative justice" as oppose to "retributive justice"

I agree with what was said, that the courts, jails, and criminal records have a negative impact on person life for the duration of it. An impact that may lead them into anti-social behavior in the future. This is to no benefit to anyone.

These are just suggestions. As was already said, it is up to the victims to handle it as they see fit. I'm glad the property is being returned and I wish everybody involved in this situation the best.

also I know that you speak from experience from dealing with people who where tough characters that the situation called for the police to deal with them.
Remember who you where then and who you are now. I would think that you where an adversary to them at that moment of time and not an elder as you would be seen today to these kids. You have gotten older, your not involved with people that you would consider to be tough characters in the way that you once where. You could actually be consider a community leader for the things you have organized.

Ha! These kids might actually look up to you as cool elder for the experiences that you had and what you do today. Don't doubt the value that you hold or the doubt value that these misguided kids have potential for.

"If you steal from your peers, you fucking suck. Fuck you. " #YES

What is the best path which justice can be served? That's the goal. + having the stolen items returned in the condition which they were taken in.

Has there been any more progress with these guys? Are they communicating to someone?? I mean, what about the rest of the stolen articles- arent they still missing?

It's be nice to keep the police out of it, but my question is what will be done if these "tough guys" arent complying?

I agree with letting the community know who these people are. Living in a home where we host events open to this community, I'd like to personally know who I can't trust in my home.

I also personally believe that this group of kids needs to be made an example of. I know one thing we all love about this community is the trust we all have in each one of us. Everyone knows this is a loving, trusting, understanding and forgiving community but some things just aren't fucking ok.

I, for one, refuse to forgive someone for stressing out my friends and ATTEMPTING to KILL F U N.

If we were our own police that would be ATTEMPTED MURDER and punishment should be GTFO, but wait, Larsen is going to pee on you first.
